FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 

Here’s a breakdown of our most asked questions. If you have a question that’s not listed, feel free to email us directly at nucec2024@gmail.com and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Q: Do any of the submissions have to be about the upcoming Chicago Ethnography Conference (CEC) theme?
A: No, we do encourage individuals to submit abstracts that focus on each year’s conference theme, however, that does not have to necessarily be the main focus of your research.

Q: Will you accept quantitative abstract submissions?
A: No, we accept only ethnographic, majority qualitative work with an exception to mixed methods.

Q: Am I able to volunteer?
A: Yes, we accept volunteers for the day of the conference preparations (registration, time-keeping, panel set-up, AV, etc). Please contact us directly at cec@luc.edu if you wish to volunteer.

Q: Do I have to register even if I am not presenting? 
A: Yes, everyone who plans to attend this conference should register ahead of time. There will be a a form to register up on the website closer to the conference date, so please stay tuned!

Q: Are there conference registration fees?
A: This is a free conference! However, all presenters and attendees are still responsible for their own hotel and travel accommodations for the conference.

Q: My research is a work-in-progress (WIP), am I still able to submit?
A: Yes, we accept WIP research projects to encourage conference presenters to share their work, knowledge, and gain helpful insights from other graduate students and attendees.

Q: Do you have to be currently enrolled in graduate school to submit?
A: Yes, as this is a graduate student conference, we require all presenters to be currently enrolled in graduate school.

Q: My graduate department requires me to show proof of conference acceptance in order to secure travel reimbursement. Can the CEC committee send additional documents to assure conference attendance?
A: Yes, the committee can assist with letters from the host university’s department chair or faculty advisor for the conference indicating submission acceptance. Please email us directly at nucec2024@gmail.com should a letter be necessary.

 

Q: Is there a page limit for paper drafts?

A: Yes, the page limit for paper drafts is 30 pages.
